CBS Evening News reporter Chip Reid and Hearst Newspapers
columnist Helen Thomas grilled White House Press Secretary
Robert Gibbs about the packaging of questions that would be
fielded by Obama in a Town Hall in Annandale, Virginia on July 2.
Thomas cut off the discussion by going after Gibbs, saying:
"I'm amazed at you people who called for openness and trans-
parency..." Gibbs suggested to Reid that they have the discuss-
ion at the end of the town hall meeting. Thomas interrupted,
saying: "No, no, no...we're having it now...It's a pattern of
controlling the press."
